This year, I discovered, too late, how delicious Yale oatmeal was. I had so many bowls of the "loaded oatmeal" (loaded with butter and brown sugar... mmm healthy!) in Davenport and Commons for breakfast (or in Calhoun, on the weekends), often topped with a sliced banana, macadamia nuts, almonds, sunflower seeds, and/or cranberries.

A breakfast in Davenport this spring

In an effort to recreate my blissful Yale Dining breakfast experiences, I bought a canister of oatmeal for the first time in my life and attempted to make it in the microwave. Though it wasn't the same, of course, I thought I did pretty well (that is...after figuring out exactly how long to heat it for when my oatmeal poured out from my bowl a couple of times like a volcano eruption).

I had a successful bowl of oatmeal before checking into my flight this morning. There weren't even other open seats to choose from, had I wanted to change my seat--maybe I would like Southwest's first-come-first-serve check-in style that Becky told me about. It's sad that there are no meals included on a 12-hour journey (I can't help but remember the bibimbap on my flights to and from Korea). I'm sure I'll make up for it when I get to Alaska though!
